哨兵（英語：picket，，中文或稱「尖兵」）是一个士兵或一小隊士兵，位於前線，以警示敌軍來襲。 在英文中，可以泛指执行相同功能的任何单位（例如，飞机或船隻）。

哨兵（法語：piquet，語意為以尖銳物刺穿）被认为起源于於1690年法国军队，指當前線的步兵連指定火枪手擔任观察的任務時， 哨兵长枪小隊協助支援。 [2] 早於1735年前，英國陸軍亦使用此名稱。 [3]
